HANA as a Service

When we talk about HANA as a service, it is essentially about services via SAP Cloud Platform (SCP). Services can be “Platform as a service” (PAAS) e.g. ABAP on cloud is an out of box Platform as a Service offering from SAP Cloud Platform. Services can be “Software as a service” (SAAS) also e.g. SAP SuccessFactors, Concur or Fieldglass. Some points to understand here in this context:

  1. These services are mostly HANA on-demand services
  2. Service is managed by SAP for SCP
  3. There are other Cloud service providers such as AWS by Amazon and Azure by Microsoft etc.
  4. Licenses can be acquired with Subscription

There are many SAP Partners who provide Cloud services/infrastructure to SAP customers. e.g.”

  1. Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  2. IBM
  3. Microsoft Azure
  4. Alibaba
  5. Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

SAP Cloud Platform or HANA Cloud Platform is a Platform-as-a-Service offering from SAP which includes in-memory database capabilities, advanced analytics, and seamless intelligent integration services for digital transformation of an enterprise. As a platform, it also supports many new offerings which promise to make enterprises more lean, agile and secure. Such as:

  1. Blockchain
  2. Machine Learning
  3. Hadoop integration and analytics
  4. Mobile services
  5. Dev-ops
  6. Master Data Governance
  7. Internet of Things

In conclusion, SAP Cloud Platform integrates Data and Business Processes. HANA as a Service provide means to use SAP as well as third party applications in form of APIs. Simplicity in consuming APIs gives immense flexibility to business to implement proven/well tested solutions in a very short span of time.
